OFFERED
In addition to doctors' and nurses' appointments to discuss your health concerns,
we offer the following specific services (divided into those which can be booked
directly with a practice nurse and those for which you should first see a doctor).
Services which can be booked directly with the practice nurse:
Routine Health Checks
Checking height, weight, blood pressure, lifestyle factors and offering general
health and dietary advice.
Asthma Care
Treatment, checking use of devices, breathing tests and lifestyle issues.
Diabetes Care
Helps to manage and come to terms with diabetes, monitor
the disease and educate in preventing or limiting associated problems.
Coronary Heart Disease Risk Assessments
Examines risk factors for heart disease and assists with lifestyle changes to
improve general health and prevent cardiac disease.
Vaccinations and Immunisations
Routine childhood vaccinations are performed by our health visitors; adult tetanus
jabs are given by our practice nurse. Our practice nurses will also offer a travel
vaccination service (addressing your itinerary and vaccination requirements and
any anti-malarial treatments needed).
Cervical Cytology Screen (Smears)
This is a very important screening test to check the health of the cervix. It
can identify very early changes in the cells of the cervix which can then be treated.
This can prevent cervical cancer from starting.
Services which your doctor may recommend or for which you first need to
see the doctor:
Family Planning
Including coil fitting.
Minor Surgery
We do remove certain lumps and bumps from the skin where we feel this
is appropriate to perform at the surgery.
Liquid nitrogen clinic
For the freezing of warts or certain other skin conditions.
ECG recordings
An electrical recording of your heart.
24 Hour Blood Pressure Monitoring
A device used to examine blood pressure readings throughout the day.
Lung Function Tests (Spirometry)
Used to look at patients lung function and assist with diagnosis and treatment
of certain lung conditions.
Hearing Tests (Audiogram)
Ear Syringing
Needs to be performed on the recommendation of the doctor and after at least five
days use of a wax softener eg Olive Oil Ear Drops BP from the chemist.
Our practice nurses carry out most of the services mentioned.
Phlebotomy
(Blood Tests)
Your doctor or practice nurse may wish you to have a blood test and this will
be discussed with you. We do have a specific clinic for blood testing. These were
initially set up for the convenience of elderly patients or those with poor mobility
who might have difficulty getting to Pinderfields or Clayton Hospitals for these
tests. Since we now have additional trained staff to take blood, we can offer
this service more widely to our patients. However, clinics do get fully booked
and if you are able to travel you may be asked to attend one of the Wakefield
hospitals.
